Appellant was convicted after a jury trial of making unsworn falsifications to authorities and fabricating physical evidence in connection with a fire that occurred on October 15, 1974. The evidence viewed in the light most favorable to the Commonwealth established the following. On October 15, a fire was set in an unoccupied home in East Lansdowne by Albert Pinner, a convicted arsonist who at the time was a member of the East Lansdowne Fire Company. Appellant, who was Chief of the Fire Company, attended the fire and later filed a report on the incident. In his report, appellant said the fire was probably caused by the owners failure to extinguish a cigarette. There was little evidence, however, to support appellants surmise.
